Some of key policies and initiatives
*The right to education act , 2009 ( RTE)- Right to free and compulsory education in a nearby school for every child between the age of 6 and 14.
* (SSA) The Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, 2001- Provide universal access to education for all children.
* (RMSA) The Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, 2009 - To improve the quality of secondary education in India and to promote vocational education and skill development.
* The main feature of NEP to eradicate the outdated and narrow focus on rote learning and memorization and promote critical thinking, creativity and problem- solving skills.
* NEP focuses on wide range of subjects - arts, sports, and vocational skills.
* It also focuses on diverse range of educational pathways.
* NEP focuses on teacher training and professional development.
* NEP promotes equity and inclusiveness.
* NEP is also likely to promote the use of technology in education.
Some potential drawbacks of new educational policies could include

Goal of implementing NEP
* To develop critical thinking, problems- solving skills, curiosity and love towards learning.
* Focus on holistic learning, student- centered approach to teaching and learning to shift away from rote learning.
* To establish alternative education programs for children who may not have access to traditional schools.
* For betterment inclusion of experiential and inquiry- based methods as well as the incorporation of local knowledge and cultural practices into the curriculum.
* Implementation of open- ended questions that encourage students to think creatively and come up with solutions of problems.
* Increasing availability of education in regional languages, financial support for disadvantaged students, to reduce the gender and socio-economic gaps in education.
* NEP calls for the establishment of parent - teacher associations and community-based education programs to improve quality of education.
